I keep thinking about this...

I had a weird interaction with a prior Dean of Students that I couldn't figure out at the time, which I think I understand now.

He called me into his office and told me that I had been lied to about a chemistry major coming to Purdue Northwest's Westville campus. He repeatedly asked me who told me there was going to be a degree. This is the part that has been plaguing me for quite a while. I just kept saying "everyone" and insisting it was common knowledge. Everyone knew Westville campus was getting a chemistry degree. He asked who everyone was, and I remember saying, "Everyone." Then he asked me who "everyone" was multiple times. Finally, I listed every faculty member I ever spoke to about the chemistry major, and he seemed satisfied. It was so weird that I texted a mate in my cohort what happened, and she was confused too, saying, "Everyone."

The next semester, Barreto was pissed at me right off the bat. The way he treated me was insane. He kept saying, "You got me in trouble." I remember not knowing what he was talking about and thinking he was mistaken (he was always in trouble for one thing or another, and I had no bloody clue what he was on about.)

In hindsight, I wonder if he got in trouble somehow for my meeting with the dean. If that's what that was about. I remember he and another professor had been upset that I didn't qualify for the major, effectively quashing the chances of the major going through. This was not the case because the professor who taught the course I needed to take had waived my pre-reqs.

But why was the dean so adamant that I list people? What was that about? It was so odd and really sticks out because he was so adamant and weird about it.

Anyway, I hear that the major never happened and I wonder if the dean had been trying to sow a division between the students and professors. We were practically unionized when it came to pushing the major through. I even still have documentation my professors sent me regarding the major when we all believed it was a done deal, and it was going through.

The only piece of information on that is that I had been told by a Hammond faculty member not to trust the admin or Vice-Dean Suson because they got involved in getting rid of the idea of a chemistry MS that was in the works at Hammond prior to the merger. What's sad about that in particular is that companies in the area are always looking for people with an MS in chemistry. Moreso than a BS, it seems.

As usual, check out the petition. It's picking up steam as this website has become semi-popular from people searching for Purdue Northwest on Google. Literally all I want is my grade to reflect the syllabus grades: change my B- to a B.
